FELLOWSHIP Training & Learning Labs
The FELLOWSHIP Training Programme: Building Emotional Intelligence Through Innovative Learning Techniques
The FELLOWSHIP training programme is a cornerstone of the project, designed to equip youth workers and young people with the skills, knowledge, and tools needed to strengthen Emotional Intelligence (EQ). Featuring two immersive and dynamic training labs, the programme employs innovative Game-Based Learning (GBL) resources to foster personal growth, professional development, and social engagement.
Both the Berlin training – hosted by NGO Nest Berlin in May 2024 in Germany – and the Sofia training – hosted by AIM in November 2024 in Bulgaria – have served as successful pilot examples. These events provide a template for organizing similar trainings with youth workers in the future. Check out some snapshots from the FELLOWSHIP Training & Learning Labs!

Programme Objectives
The FELLOWSHIP training programme is designed to:
- Provide youth workers and young people with practical knowledge of Emotional Intelligence and its applications in everyday life and professional settings.
- Introduce youth workers to advanced concepts and methodologies, enhancing their ability to support and mentor young people effectively.
- Foster collaboration and mutual learning among participants from diverse backgrounds.
- Promote behavioural and social development by actively applying newly acquired skills.
Key Components of the Training Programme
Training for Youth Workers
A five-day intensive training lab in Berlin prepared 24 youth workers to apply innovative tools and techniques for teaching Emotional Intelligence. This professional development course introduced participants to:
- Outdoor Games Guide: Activities that highlight EQ benefits through experiential outdoor learning.
- Board Game on Emotional Intelligence: An engaging resource for exploring EQ concepts interactively.
- Digital/Serious Game on Conversation Flashcards: A state-of-the-art tool to enhance conversational skills and emotional awareness.
Youth workers gained practical experience with these resources, enabling them to integrate these tools into their work to promote the personal and social growth of young people. Peer exchange was a vital aspect, encouraging participants to share strategies and insights from their local contexts.
Training for Youth Workers and Young People
The second phase in Sofia focused on collaboration, bringing together youth workers trained in Berlin and young participants. Over five days, youth workers applied their skills to guide young people in using the GBL resources.
This phase encouraged participants to:
- Enhance emotional regulation, empathy, and communication skills.
- Develop a deeper understanding of their emotions and how to manage them.
- Build stronger relationships and foster positive social interactions.
Guided by experienced trainers and youth workers, participants engaged in meaningful discussions, reflective activities, and interactive games. These activities promoted both individual growth and stronger group dynamics.
Impact and Outcomes
The FELLOWSHIP training programme creates a ripple effect of empowerment and positive change. For youth workers, it provides a pathway for professional development and enhances their ability to mentor effectively. For young participants, it offers a chance to build essential life skills that contribute to their well-being and social success.
By cultivating a community of skilled and motivated youth workers, FELLOWSHIP ensures the sustainability of its impact, delivering long-term benefits for individuals, organizations, and society as a whole. This innovative approach to Emotional Intelligence sets a new standard for youth work, paving the way for a more inclusive and emotionally intelligent future.
